Npc drillmaster

Drillmaster

The Drillmaster is an NPC found in the game.

He can be found in lone rooms or cages during a run only when the player has a mercenary that is not yet fully trained. He will enhance the mercenary at the cost of some gold.

  • The lone room he appears has some training materials.
  • If for any reason the player has more than one mercenary, paying gold once can enhance all of them by one rank if possible.

Each Drillmaster can be used many times, but doing so will double the price every time until moving to the next floor. This effect does not affect all Drillmasters spawned within the same floor. If rescued from a cage, all training costs in the rest of the game is reduced by 50%, though this effect only stacks with the Sale Buff.

After every training, mercenaries will have 15 more health and become more aggressive.

Mercenaries can also carry better weapons after training.

  • Mercenaries without any upgrades or Pet Buff can carry Common, Uncommon and Rare weapons.
  • Mercenaries with 1 upgrade can carry Very Rare weapons.
  • Mercenaries with 2 upgrades can carry Epic weapons.
  • Mercenaries with 3 upgrades can carry Legendary weapons.

Every follower can be trained for a maximum of 5 times. The current level of training is indicated by their current growth.

  • It is impossible to talk to the Drillmaster if all of the player's mercenaries are fully trained.

His upgrades can add a total of 75 HP to the mercenary, which stacks with the Pet Buff resulting in a whopping +110 bonus. In the case of Pet Buff already present (or if the mercenary is Jim Smiley/Pharaoh), the upgrades only provide the health bonus.

He also appears in the Lobby. If the player has not completed Advanced Tutorial, he will offer access in the Living Room. After that, he moves to near the Training Dummy in the Garden.

Quotes

  • If the player pays him:
    • "He seems stronger now!"
  • If the player's mercenary has died in the same floor:
    • "Where's your follower?"
  • When rescued from a cage:
    • "Monstrous! Savage! Inhuman! I am suing their pants off now that I am free."
  • Random talk in the Garden when the player attacks the Training Dummy:
    • "I promised sweat. Let's see it."
      "There you go!"
  • When the player uses Werewolf's Devour skill to consume the Training Dummy:
    • "Oops!"

In Advanced Tutorial

  • When first interacted in the Living Room:
    • "New kid?"
  • When interacted a second time:
    • "Ready?"
  • After entering Advanced Tutorial:
    • "Your training starts. See what is in the chest."
  • After the player unlocks the chest:
    • "Grab your weapon. Next room, move!"
  • When the player enter the Reforging Furnace room:
    • "Reforging furnace remodels your weapon to a different one."
  • When the player enters the Resetting Furnace room:
    • "Resetting furnace turns your weapon back to materials."
  • When the player enters a chest room:
    • "Need a new weapon? Check out what is in the chest."
  • After the player opens the chest:
    • "Those weapons can merge into a new powerful one. Pick them up."
  • When the player enters a statue room:
    • "Give this statue coins to get a skill buff. Then activate your skill and see how it goes."
  • When the player enters a Gold Mine room:
    • "A Gold Mine! Time to scoop up some coins!"
  • When the player enters an armor mount shop:
    • "Get yourself an armor mount which comes with a unique skill."
  • When the player enters a buff room:
    • "The training is about to end. Pick up these powerful buffs."
  • After completing the Advanced Tutorial:
    • "You are all set! Teleport yourself back to the lobby."
  • Random talk when fighting enemies:
    • "Come on, you can do much better!"
      "You got this!"
"Push it along, gotta be strong."
"Go, go, go. Allez, allez, allez."

Trivia

  • The Drillmaster's sprite is called "Trainer" in the game's asset.
  • When first added, the Drillmaster could only train Followers once every time the player meets him.
  • If for any reason two Drillmasters spawn in the same floor, the price of each Drillmaster is independent of the other, but it is still impossible to upgrade mercenaries more than 5 times in total, even if a Drillmaster would still show the prompt.
